The Pendletons - Oh, Me!

If you haven’t realized already, I went to school at the University of Georgia in the wonderful town of Athens, GA. Hands down, one of the greatest parts about being in Athens is the music. This being said, I would like to introduce a great band, The Pendletons. These guys were molded by the same town that produced bands like R.E.M, the B-52’s, Widespread Panic, and a band previously reviewed, The Whigs. I will have to admit though, I had never really given these guys a listen until I left Athens. I do remember them opening up for bands like The Whigs while in school but I guess they never caught my ear. I take that all back now.

The Pendleton’s debut CD, titled “Oh, Me!,” was released in July of 2007 and has already raised some brows over at Rolling Stone and around the Athens scene. I stumbled on this CD while surfing around iTunes (what I do when i’m bored) and gave it a listen. The best way to describe their music is an “indie pop” genre, but by no means am I emphasizing “pop.” To a lot of people this can be bad, but in this sense it is something great. The Pendletons have that garageband feel to their music, but it is slightly more polished with hooks and catchy melodies that come out of no where. I have never seen them live, but from the music you know that they have a lot of energy. I have to say that their music will get stuck in your head and have you humming or singing in no time. “Not Gonna Stop” has been in my head for days and I can’t stop singing it.
